How to Restring and Tune a Guitar
Part of being a creative person is exploring that fact in many different ways. For me, it’s not enough just to express myself visually, but musically as well. I started learning to play the guitar when I was in the ninth grade, and I found a love for it. I’m certainly not the best guitar player, and I’m certainly not an expert of the instrument, but it’s another way for me to express my creativity that’s fun and relaxing.
One of the most important aspects of guitar care to ensure that the sound stays clear and beautiful is making sure the strings aren’t too old, and that they are well taken care of. Changing the strings isn’t hard, but it can be kind of frustrating if it’s your first time doing it. In my video I walk you through the steps of how to change your guitar strings, and give some extra tips along the way. Though it seems a little intimidating at first glance to take all the strings off and put them back on, trust me, it’s not as bad as it may seem.
I’ve found that changing guitar strings can be kind of relaxing (once you’ve got a hang of it). Like I mentioned in one of my previous blog posts, it’s also something tactile to do that can help spark other creative ideas. It’s always really satisfying to have brand new strings that sound crisp and clear, and that, in turn, inspires me to play more, as well. The life cycle of strings really depends on how often you play - most professional musicians change theirs weekly - but, regardless, it’s an important part of taking care of your guitar.
